WAHM tips: 6 Dollar Store Home Hacks
You just walked through your laundry room and an horrible caught your eye…an overflowing basket of stinky laundry.
Ugh! You didn’t plan on doing any today, but you realize if you don’t you’ll have to break those darks down into two loads instead of cramming it all in one (you know what I’m talking about)!
Here’s a few quick and cheap LAUNDY DOLLAR STORE HACKS you can use. Save time, money and make doing that pile of stinky socks so much easier.
(What did they do without dollar stores in 1955? Oh yeah, everything costs LESS than a dollar back then!)
Simple Sale – Add some to Keep Colors From Running
There are a lot of expensive products on the market promising to keep those brights bright. But, instead of adding even more chemicals to your load, just add a pinch of simple salt and be sure to rinse clean. The magic ingredient in salt (chloride) helps protect vibrant colors and keeps them from fading too fast.
Pit Juice = Lemon Juice
Yellowish stains under the arms on light/white clothing? Nix those armpit stains simply by scrubbing them with a mixture of equal parts lemon juice and water. The acid content of lemon works well in stain removing and acts as a natural deodorant as well. Lemons just keep on coming in handy, don’t they?
$5 = Organizes Laundry
Go to the dollar store, grab some large plastic bins/baskets – however many you think you’ll need. Mark each with a big black Sharpie: WHITES, DARKS, DELICATES, BABY, HOUSE, etc., etc. Make sure each person in your home knows the new system and abides by throwing their laundry in the proper bin!
$1 = Remove Grease Stains
Car grease, food grease, any grease…ick! Getting grease stains out ain’t no easy task, either. But…another dollar store buy – simple chalk – can help! Rub into the stains; the chalk powder will absorb the grease, making the stain easily removable by the laundry soap when you wash.
$ Beauty = No More Ink
While at your local dollar store picking up these hack items, grab a bottle of cheapo hair spray. It’s presto magic (well, almost) for removing ink stains. All you need to do is apply a few squirts of hairspray on the stained area, let it sit for at least ten minutes, and then throw it into the wash as usual. You can also use hand sanitizer! Alcohol in these items will help remove the ink.
Eco-Friendly Clean Machine Hack
I hate using chemicals so I love this. To easily disinfect and clean the washing machine, just fill it using the highest load size, hottest water setting, and longest wash. Add a quart of white vinegar and a cup of baking soda. Let it sit for about an hour and rinse wash after. Those musty smells are gone, baby, gone!
